Ah yes, and I finally remembered to go digging for this video on YouTube. I'm not, on the whole, a huge fan of Talking Heads, but this song (and its accompanying video) was a big, big part of my teenage years. I still occasionally think of it as my 'theme song'.

There are worse roads to walk than the road to nowhere - at least the scenery is interesting, and you meet all sorts of really cool people along the way.

*Yawn*

Quick meme before bed - I went and ordered a pizza, then fell asleep on the sofa...

What was the last concert you attended?

That would be Zico in Glasgow on Thursday. Whatever date that was.

What bands have you seen in concert the most, and how many times?

Er. I've seen Saxon and Quo often enough that I have no idea how many times; we're well into double figures with Zico too.

Do you have any setlists? From what bands?

Got a couple of Leppard ones, one Saxon one (from '92, much treasured!), and three Zico ones.

Are there any CDs in close proximity to you? Which ones?

Oh criminey, a huge pile. Both the new Avantasias, the new Gamma Ray, new Helloween, Food, Demons And Wizards, Saxon's Inner Sanctum... and a Magnum CD, Storyteller's Night reissue. And a ginormous pile of CDs and DVDs on my printer.

What band are you in the mood to see live right this second?

Apart from Zico Chain? ;) I have so got a Zico buzz on right now... but apart from them, I'd like to see My Alamo (been supporting Zico, very good band), Gamma Ray, Helloween, or - of course - MAIDEN!

Have you ever been on a tour bus?

Apart from the blue van, yeah. Leppard's tour bus in '03.

Have you ever partied with a band?

HAHAHAHA - yeah! Mostly Zico (suprise, no?!), but a little bit with Gamma Ray and Leppard too.

How many states/provinces have you been to concerts in?

Making this a little less US-centric, I've been to concerts in:

Sweden, Italy, Iceland, Wales, Scotland, England, and NC in the US.

What bands did you see live the month of June?

Fucked if I can remember. It's been a long year...

What CD are you addicted to at the moment?

Zico Chain, Food; and Gamma Ray, Land Of The Free II

Who is one band that you used to like, but now you cant stand?

As people, Leppard - although I will always love their music. Musically, I'm very disenchanted with Metallica.

Have you ever been on anyones guest list?

Yup. ;)

Last band person that you got a picture with?

Zico Chain! Probably the one I got in York with all three of them.

Do you consider yourself a groupie?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAno. Groupies get laid more.

How old were you when you went to your first concert?

15.

Who was it?

Motorhead, 1986, Oxford Apollo.

Which artists haven't you seen yet that you want to see?

Edguy, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray!

Are you wearing a band shirt right now?

No.

What band do you own the most merch of?

*Scratches head* Hard to say - probably Maiden, because I've been following them for so long.

Do you ever do anything crazy at shows?

Define 'crazy' ;)

What are your favourite venues to go to shows at?

Small ones! I do like the Astoria in London - nice size, and the staff aren't all utter wankers. But on the whole, the smaller the better. I was impressed by the Orange Peel in Asheville, though.

What band do you have the most performance pictures of?

Probably Gamma Ray, because Fred keeps feeding me Dirk pics!

Mmm, Dirk....

Would you ever get a tattoo representing a band?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Er, yeah. Now you come to mention it, I just might...

How many concerts do you average a year?

It depends, really. But I suppose anywhere between 10 and 20, depending on who's on tour and how much it costs to go see them. Been an awful lot of small shows this year.

Upcoming show?

Apocalyptica week after next, Zico Chain tomorrow! *Squees happily*

And that's that! Now I need some sleep... desperately. Wish me luck for the drive to Liverpool tomorrow, and I'll see y'all when I get back :D

Ha!

So anyway.

This was going to be a post about how even in the short time I've been back nursing I'm pissed off with it again. Not the nursing, per se, but that's exactly the point. If I wanted to be an administrator and cleaner, I'd do it during the day.

I got a 40 minute break last night. I leave for job #2 in a little over an hour. Hope I don't fall asleep at the wheel...

Oh, and Slay popped in to work last night on the way back from the Zico gig to tell me how it all went. (While I did insurance forms. I'm so diligent.) He not only got to roadie for them (with Chris' girlfriend's brother) both at load in and out, but also got to have a ride in the blue van. He's got three day's driving/roadie work for them next weekend... and I could go too, if I wasn't. Fucking. Working.

Oh yeah. I'm so chuffed.

And they (Zico, that is) might be supporting Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (waits for [livejournal.com profile] rockfic to squee) at Oxford - on a wednesday night, which means I can go... I'll just have worked a night followed by a day before I go to the gig. Hmm.

But instead of having a long-ass whine about how badly my working life sucks and how revoltingly jealous of my husband I am, I'm going to show y'all some pictures that cheered me right the fuck up when [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde posted them on the RF boards late last night. Two this morning, hackshully. Good job I work alone, because when I saw them I screamed - and I mean hollered, top of the lungs stuff.

Here be new Gamma Ray publicity shots - and damn, but don't the boys look GOOD? )

Sooo. I'm going to poke around the 'net for a bit, then go to work. *Sigh* And hope that Zico, when played loud enough, will keep me sufficiently awake not to die in the screaming battlezone that is the A34 at rush hour!

Oh! And before I forget. I downloaded an Ayreon album last night - The Human Equation - and fuck me, it's awesome. :D I think [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde has managed to convert me... ;)

Because I'm feeling clingy today, and because I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] sidewinder:

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

1 - Where Would You Rather Be? - Zico Chain. There's going to be a lot of Zico in this list, because they are completely of the awesome. I adore Chris' lyrics, and the drums on this almost make me come on the spot. Oh yes, 'tis THAT good. ('Don't judge me quite so fast, you hide the porn and the whisky glass...')

2 - Brain - Zico Chain. (I warned you.) This is the most fucked up love song ever ever ever. Love it. ('So torn up by all the things that I could never do, so I killed you...') *Heeheehee*

3 - Pretty Pictures - Zico Chain. Cynical lyrics and ye gods but the guitar and bass and drums just work so perfectly together in this it makes me grin maniacally and drive too fast. Every time. ('Do you take what you lust for and never look back...?')

4 - Roll Over - Zico Chain. If nothing else, this reminds me of Guilfest and Paul saying to the crowd "Does anyone else know the words to this one apart from these guys at the front?" Yup, I do striketh again. I would have bounced to this song but I was busting for the loo and would have wet myself. *Snort* Love the song anyway.

5 - The Longest Day - Iron Maiden. Makes me cry. Bloody intense song, powerful lyrics, and Bruce on top form. All about the D-Day landings, and man did they catch the terror of being in the middle of it...

6 - If I could Fly - Helloween. Had The Dark Ride on in the car the other day and fell in love with Andi's voice all over again. Love the song, love the ideas, love the lyrics... damn, I can't wait to see these guys live again.

7 - Blind - Breed77. Oh my but this one is fun to shriek along with in the car. The whole album is astonishingly good, but this song really grabs me and, yes, makes me drive too damn fast!

Mind you, at the moment it's probably more accurate to say I'm digging whole albums rather than individual tracks. The three I'm looking forward to coming out are Food (Zico's new one, hopefully next month), and the new Helloween and Gamma Ray. Then ask me what I'm listening to!

As for tagging people, well... hell, you wanna do it, knock yerself out. ;)

Whee!

Oh my goodness I am on such a high.

I mean, really. :D

Cos last night we went to see Breed77 at the Zodiac in Oxford and were they good? Read more... )

OK,a few nice things have happened today. (I know, I made a mark on my calender too.)

1 - [livejournal.com profile] isilrandir wrote and posted a Gamma Ray fic. *Shrieks with utter delight*

And in common with all her work, it's absolutely bloody amazingly good. I owe her such a big fat snog when I get to Asheville!

Alarm Call.

OMG it's so great. *Big cheesy grin*

2 - Got off my ass and went into the studio. Didn't stay long - just long enough to book myself in for a session next week with Jon. Apparently business is so bad even he has taken a second job. *Ker-sigh* But he and Nurse both appeared pleased to see me, which was very nice indeed.

3 - My latest ebay order arrived. I now have tarot cards!

4 - And another biggie: the new Magnum album arrived!!! Princess Alice And The Broken Arrow. Fucked up title but a bloody great album.

And now Slay is home, so I'm off to have my good mood shattered. ;)

Yawn.

Why Slay feels the need to wake me up as he goes to work I have no idea. But he does. Anyway.

Meme gacked from [livejournal.com profile] marchingjaybird and [livejournal.com profile] hector_rashbaum:

First, list your 10 favorite bands/performers:

1 - Iron Maiden
2 - Helloween
3 - Gamma Ray
4 - Edguy
5 - Saxon
6 - Turisas
7 - The Zico Chain
8 - Blind Guardian
9 - Magnum
10 - Metallica

And now, the questions! )

If anyone's interested, I uploaded the Turisas album 'Battle Metal' to YouSendIt.

All you have to do is promise that - should you like the album - you buy it at some point.

Oh, and pimp 'em to your friends.

Oh wow!

The postman came!

And he shoved through my door my copy of Gamma Ray's Blast From The Past that I have been trying to find for ages and finally bought off someone in Australia (!!!), and it's the bollocks and has the booklet with all the Riggs artwork and everything!

And also the new Helloween DVD!

*Squeaks and flails and shouts and stuff*

They say things happen in threes - so keep your fingers crossed that something equally awesome comes my way today!

(Yes, exclamation point abuse - bite me!)

A Twist In The Myth has grabbed my attention in a way that A Matter of Life And Death has not.

Sorry boys.

(You're still my faves, though.)

Just downloaded Last.FM and Foobar. Am currently putzing around with both, trying to figure out how to make them work - and having rather a lot of fun. It would help if they both had an 'idiot' button that said 'not a geek? OK, you do it like this...'

I'll figure it out. I rather like foobar already.

So here we are again, friday afternoon and stuck on the reception desk. For now it's just answering the (goddamn) phone, but come 3pm and the beginning of afternoon surgery everything will go bonkers. Thank fuck it's only to 6:30 and not 7 tonight...

(Argh. Surgery starts at 2:30. Bum. They've started...)

And I've got a headache. It feels like one of my bad blood pressure migraines - if my lips and the end of my nose starts to go numb before the afternoon is out then that's a sign I'll be in bed with an ice pack on my head, lying down in the dark all weekend!

The only good thing is that there's three more Anita Blake books waiting at the post office (Slay can go fetch them in the morning) and my CDs turned up today. The bloody postman could get them through the letter box! Two Gamma Ray cds (Majestic and Somewhere Out In Space) - thanks for getting me hooked, [livejournal.com profile] silicondreams! - and two Apocalyptica - Apocalyptica and Cult.

Well, I was on Amazon buying books (I could make excuses and claim that Slay has become addicted to them - which he has - but the sad fact is that so have I) and thought, ah, hell with it, let's have a little mooch through the cd section.

Bugger. If I'd thought I would have bought Rabbit Don't Come Easy, too. Nuts. (Saschaaaaaaaaaaaa!)

Right, must go tell the vets their people have started arriving.

Have a nice evening, people!

Lazy...

Jan. 10th, 2006 09:08 am
mad_andy: (Default)
Yup, that's me.

Although it's nice to be actually having a lazy morning, instead of comatose-feeling-like-shit passed out morning. So I'm drinking tea, listening to the Apo tracks I've downloaded and being...well, lazy.

Things to do today:

Muck ferrets out.

Go see Chris and beg for an apprenticeship.

Draw. (I'm in a creative mood)

Shout at file sharing software until it gives in and goes and gets me the music I want.

OK, that last is me being - heh - lazy. I'll confess, the main reason I like to download music is to see if I like a band, then I can go get their albums knowing I'm not going to put them on and think, crap, whatever possessed me to buy this? And in case you're looking at this going WTF? Where has she been for the last gazillion years the answer is - obeying my dear husband's unilateral edict that Thou Shalt Not Install File Sharing Software.

Bollocks.

So I asked [livejournal.com profile] arrys_girlie which one she used (I would have used WinMX but the firewall blocked it and I didn't dare ask how to free it up - had I asked somebody else and fiddled with the firewall settings His Nibs would have gone ballistic) and gave it a whirl. Presto, success!

So I'm having quite the ball chasing down stuff I've been meaning to get, although it seems that I only ever seem to get about 50% of the files I select. But then, I'm selecting hundreds of the buggers so no biggie, really.

Does mean I now have a huge list of albums to get. *Snort* Ah well.

Tattoo is as sore as a very sore thing on a sore day. Washed it carefully first thing - gritted teeth - dabbed it dry and applied cream. So far, so hoopy. Washed rest of self, dried off then applied spray deoderant, totally forgetting in my pre-second-mug-of-tea state about the fresh tatt on the left hand side of my chest, dangerously close to said armpit.

And once I'd stopped screaming and rolling around on the bathroom floor (OK, bit of an exaggeration but my vision did go decidedly sparkly for a moment or two) I thought I'd probably best watch out for that for the next few days. *Snort*

Did spend some time looking at myself in bathroom mirror - have never been a vain creature so this is a rather new experience for me. Damn, but I love the way my ink looks; as I said to Bish while we were away, it feels like I'm claiming my body back. Remaking myself in an image of my own choosing.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] triad_fic is filling up nicely with a mix of new and old stuff. Not many fans as yet but who knows. From little acorns mighty oaks and all that horsepuckey, wot?

Anyway. That's me so far.

How's your day going?

Damn...

Holy Zarquon's singing fish, what a fucking drive.

I've just got in (let dog out, plonked arse in front of computer) after day 2 of the revision course. Much more confident about passing it now. But the drive home...

Jeepers.

It took me one hour and ten minutes to get within nine miles of home. That last nine miles took me another hour, thanks to roadworks on the A34.

Still, Weiki and Co. kept me company, and anyone in the cars around me with their windows open got treated to a rendition of selected tracks from the first two Keeper albums. The third had been playing from Hartpury to the traffic...

Couple of moments I'd like to share. Much of the drive is a long pull over the Cotswold, which is beautiful in good weather. Fucking filthy drive when it isn't. Today it's not - a dirty kind of drizzly, slushy blatter loaded with diesel and oil. Fucking awful. Anyway.

There I was, cig clenched between teeth, cursing the lorry in front of me doing twenty miles an hour up a hill, when there was an opening to a bit of two lane road. Well, I gunned my little pink pile of poo, grinned around my cig and shot out of the blatter doing far too many miles an hour screeching along with 'Mrs God' on the CD. Fucking priceless.

The second one came as I was approaching the drop down into Oxford; woods on either side of the car, still laden with orange gold leaves that in the dirty gloom looked brown and menacing. There must have been a gust of wind, because the grey ribbon of the road was almost obscured by a massive cloud of the damn things twisting along my line of sight; the road looked like it was dancing between the leaves, and in a skeletal black scribble of tree on the roadside I spotted a hawk (a common buzzard, to be precise), who looked up at my car and roused his feathers... all to the tune of 'Occasion Avenue', which is a dark little number.

Funny how music and circumstance sometimes come together, isn't it?

And now I think I'm going to lie down in a darkened room for a bit and not drive. Thank you.
