Mar. 31st, 2008 11:15 pmSam the Bastard has spent the last week in his water bowl.
Not that unusual; he often spends a few days in there before a shed.
( But all was not well.... )

Jun. 19th, 2007 10:01 amWell.
Been a lot happening since I last updated. Most of it animal related. So are you sitting comfortably?
( Then we shall begin... with a visit to Aladdin's cave... )
( So what did I come home with, then? )
( So why, you ask, have I got all these new beasties? )
( But what of the reptiles, I hear you cry? )
So that's the beasties. Today I still have to muck Barclay (now confirmed as female, dammit) out, although she's currently out in the garden. Sulking. Cos she hates it out there. Oh, and do the ferrets and the fishies.
Well, it'll keep me out of trouble, I guess!

Doris and Sam are due a feed today; they're both pacing the length of their vivs, eyeing me through the glass and pulling faces of Extreme Hunger. I've told Doris she can't have the lunch she can see in its little bag next to my computer until it's defrosted, but she's pouting.
Insofar as a snake can pout, of course.
Sam has actually been sitting in his water bowl, which is good to see.
Mind you, if he thinks he hates me now he's going to have hysterics on Saturday; we're taking all three snakes up to Pythons Lair to get them sexed. ( Oh man, he's really gonna enjoy that... )

Sam just ate his mouse!
of course, now he's gone back to trying to force the lid off the viv, but it's a big step in the right direction. I'll leave him a few days and see if I can get him to eat another one - once he's eating well I'll get him onto the larger prey items (ie the rats that are in the freezer) and see if that settles him down any.
In other news, Gardens Of The Sinner is finished, hurrah! It rocks in at 127,863 words according to the Rockfic board's word counter, and is the final instalment in the 'Tattoos And Alibis' trilogy, which began with Razorblade Sigh and continued in No World Order.
Both the first two books are currently available through Rockfic Press, as will the third one sometime in the summer.
I'd really really appreciate it if someone went and read the newest, though, because I'm feeling rather masochistic every time I go and look and the number of hits and reads it's had...
But I'd rather you bought the books!
Now, what shall I work on next... suggestions, anyone? ;)

Update on Sam.
For some time now I've had a sneaking suspicion that Sam is not, as I was told when I took him on as an underweight, dehydrated hatchling with heater burns, a corn snake.
Something not quite right about the shape of his head, the patterning, and of course the temperament.
So I did a little mooching on the 'net tonight, because the name 'yellow rat snake' has been poking at my memory. Something I read somewhere.
( Bingo. )

Snake in the bedroom!
Feb. 16th, 2007 05:45 pmOh God.
This is one of those things that happens occasionally when one keeps animals in containers, no matter how well appointed and comfortable said containers are.
They get out.
It isn't even my snake.
( No, it belongs to my niece.... )

Just a quickie 'cos I'm on lunch.
Found out this morning that one of my favourite patients died over the weekend. Pancreatitis, but not just any old inflamed pancreas, oh no - it had got itself in such a pickle it was all black and necrotic and nasty by the time H__ went in.
He couldn't be saved.
I'll miss him.
Longer post later - he was one of those patients that you have lots and lots of very fond memories of. I posted one of them last night in a comment on
dogologists journal.
Safe journey, Sam.
