So having been bombarded by offers for a home for the bendy snakes via the reptile forum I hang out on, I drove down to Northamptonshire today to drop them off in their new home. With them went dear Tyson; I'm going to miss him, but he deserves a really good pet home, where he'll be pampered and spoilt. I want to concentrate on breeding the corns, and with him being a common he doesn't fit in with those plans. Read more... )

And what of the other new arrival? )

Albino bulls come home tomorrow! So far, top of the list for names are Bandit and Boxer; the lady bull snake who is currently in with Zico is called Bandita! Thus far I haven't seen him doing the business, but they're snuggled up under his hide box so we shall see.

And now i'm going to try beating some sense out of some fic, so I'll see y'all later!
mad_andy: (Default)
OK, shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] tasyfa - post the bits of your fic where people actually get off. Hers is absolutely fascinating, so I thought it might be interesting to have a shuffle through some of mine and do it. All a bit random - if I did all my band fic I'd be here all day!

All links lead to Rockfic, where - if you haven't already - you should buy a membership!

So, some money shots.... )

Ok, that'll do! That covers the 2007 fic, and it's interesting to see how many of them don't have a 'money shot' at all. Anyway, interesting exercise - if anyone wants me to work through some of the older or the longer fics, I'll do it. In the meantime, it was fun anyway!

:)

You know, I'm in a remarkably good mood.

Not just because I have that rarest of things - a day off - but various things are looking not only positive, but interesting. And interesting is good, right? Right.

As 2007 was the year of the one-shot (for me, at least), it looks like 2008 might be the year of the Epic. Yeah, I know I said No More Epics... but I've got two to finish (A Matter Of Life And Death and Beneath These Waves), and an idea that's been drifting around in my mind for a while now is beginning to take shape. And it isn't something I can easily cover in a one-shot, not and do it justice.

I've been mooching the 'net, doing a little research, and I think this could be a good 'un. AU (natch), historical, set in the late seventeenth century. During the heady times of the Restoration, when the whole of England went bonkers for drinking, wenching, debauchery and general frivolity after the long, cold years of the Commonwealth that followed the Civil War.

It's going to be mostly Maiden and Zico - but then, I daresay a number of others will crop up here and there. Partly because I cannot resist the idea of men in tight pants and flowing cloaks, in the dark on Hampstead Heath (or any wild and wooly place, really) - lit by the hunter's moon, long hair stirred by a gusting breeze....

Heh.

Highwaymen, anyone?

Like a big sucky thing. Daytime insomnia. I hope like hell it's a quiet shift tonight - last night's was, but I got an email from my head nurse that had me screaming and ranting through the damn practice, thus not much sleep or even rest was had - but at least if not I should sleep well tomorrow.

Anyway. Having soaked in a number of Lush products and slathered yet more of them over my skin, I'm going to attempt the WIP meme that's doing the rounds...

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

mad_andy: (Tough day bunny)
I have a sick beastie.

It isn't mine.

Just when you think you've seen it all, someone comes in with a shiny new type of asshat! )

On a happier note, I was showing the nieces a big healthy male Yemen chameleon who's boarding at the shop while his owner is on his hols. Lovely animal, hates being in his viv and wants to sit on your head for hours - so after he'd been shown off (and sat on my head eyeing the premises like an interested shareholder) he had to go back in his viv.

Cue a battle. I almost had him in there when he shot forward, and grasped the first thing he laid his odd little paw on as tight as he could. Believe me, those things have one heck of a grip on them, and very sharp claws.

Which were wrapped tight around the end of my nose.

You know the bit between your nostrils? Just where the end of your nose curves over?

There.

I did holler. Oh boy did I.

It's still sore now.

Still, I managed to get him back into his house by the simple method of standing still (with my eyes watering, I might add) until he got his weight onto my face, then walked up my hair to sit on my head. Then I grabbed him round the middle and dumped him (gently but firmly) back in his house.

And then, of course, had to face the delighted grins of the customers who's witnessed said pantomime... oy vey!

So I've had a reshuffle in the bedroom - the pygmies are going to go into an unused 3' fishtank with a mesh lid, give them more space. Also, hopefully, I'll be able to see them a bit more clearly and maybe even get them breeding.

The baldies have two day old pups, the baby lemmings are still with us and just as cute as cute can be. Rosie has eaten her first meal with us, and all seems well on the beastie front! (Except for the poor old chameleon, but we'll see about him.)

To top it all off [livejournal.com profile] arrys_girlie has updated Forever And One last night! Huzzah!

:D

Hooked? Me?
mad_andy: (Dirk smirk)
It's all her fault. See, [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde updated the Gamma Ray stash, and some of the pictures of Dirk have made me squee and fall over. So, although most of you could give a rat's ass about my crush, I thought I'd share a few of my faves from the update:

And the squee is under here! )

*Thud*

*Ded*

And in another thud-tastic moment, [livejournal.com profile] arrys_girlie has started posting the next instalment of the High Seas Adventures, which is the individual ship story about the Helloween. And OHHHHHHHHH mygod it is good. I'm squealing my head off about it every time I look at my flist. ;)

My back hurts and I'm shattered, but otherwise good. How are you, dear flist?
mad_andy: (Tuff Dirk with gun)
This should surprise nobody that knows me.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] tiggothy:

Your Score: Masculine

You scored 63 masculinity and 46 femininity!

You scored high on masculinity and low on femininity. You have a traditionally masculine personality.

In other news, Heading For Tomorrow on [livejournal.com profile] fiendess_fic is taken a turn for the seriously awesome. My fingers are chewed to a nub. Go High Seas! :D

Got the first two done! The easiest ones, I'll admit - Hansi/Kai for [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde, and Turisas (Warlord/Olli) for [livejournal.com profile] isilrandir.

Fred's piece: )

Mary's bit: )

I'll think about some more tonight, hokay?

I have caught Slay's cold.

Those of you that know me know that I am a bit of a bloke when I'm ill, and this virus is a bit of a humdinger. (Last time I felt this rough I flew to Milan via Stockholm and almost blew out my eardrums, but that's another story.)

However. I have nowhere I have to be until Monday, so I'm going to take care of my bloody self for once. Thus, being ill is much much easier when:

1 - Modern cold meds are strong enough to have one nigh on tripping one's bollocks off.

2 - One can curl up in bed wrapped up nice and cosy with a cool drink by one's side.

3 - One has a laptop on one's knee and a supply of DVDs by one's side.

I'm almost cheerful, especially considering that I've just watched the interviews on the Helloween DVD and OMG. So. Slashy. (Markus talking about how when you're bored on the tourbus you just curl up in a corner with someone and get to know them better to pass the time? Dani relating how he and Andi share various bottles of wine rather than partying, and how he and Markus share an apartment and-- yeah, my brain asplodey.)

I also have my sketchbooks and pencils here, just in case I get bored. Speaking of which, last night I could't sleep so I drew another picture inspired by [livejournal.com profile] duffnstuff's new fic, Kings Of Fools - specifically, this bit:

'This thing was definitely a man. His eyes, although red and almost pulsing with intense amusement, had a human shine to them, and his lips bled crimson where his sharp teeth grazed the skin. His cheeks, paler than his left arm, but darker than his right, flushed with delight and his broad, upwards-turned lips twitched at the corners. Greasy, limp hair as black as his clothes fell to his shoulders, where a piece of white cheesecloth stained brown with old blood was knotted about his throat.'

Beware the Jabberwock, my son, the jaws that bite, the claws that catch! )

Only one other bandfic has ever moved me to draw a couple of characters from it - [livejournal.com profile] arrys_girlie's High Seas adventures. But that description gave me such a clear picture in my mind's eye I just had to have a crack at it....

Anyway, I'm going to curl up with a Gamma Ray DVD and blow my nose a lot. I love my laptop.

Set fire to the cooker tonight.

I knew the grease and yuk under the rings was building up, but it took the gentle *whoomph* of crud igniting under the frying pan to get my ass into gear. I stayed calm, turned the ring off (god I hate electric cookers), damped a tea towel, chucked that over the ring.

Without letting go of the frying pan or dropping the sausages. So I did all the damage control with my left hand... pretty impressive, nu?

Slay was impressed, but considering the last time I did it I almost had to call the fire brigade I think he was just pleased that there were no hysterics this time. And he got his dinner in time.

By the time he'd responded to my call of "cooker's on fire, love," it was out and I was merrily finishing the sausages off. He did open the back door to let all the smoke out, though.

Good job the smoke alarm is fucked or it would have seriously disturbed his evening. ;)

In other news, Spike has spent all day hanging around the garden but hasn't come in. Yesterday he slept through until 3pm, then came and said thanks, had a fuss and a cuddle, and off he went. Still very much not neutered, I notice....

As for Biffno, I think I'm going to give up. I hate what I'm doing, I think it's dull, lifeless, and very much unengaging. Plus I'm feeling that I might have pushed [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde too hard - guilt is a marvellous demotivator. So maybe next year.

Oh 'eck...

OK, so I've started my Biffno thing.

(BFNoWriMo, or BandFic Novella Writing Month. For those who don't know.)

Hmm. 800 words a day for a month? Should be OK. Course, whether it'll ever get finished (let alone read) is another matter - but not one for tonight.

Nope, tonight I still have a couple of hundred words to go.

*Scribbles frantically*

Yay!

Sam just ate his mouse!

of course, now he's gone back to trying to force the lid off the viv, but it's a big step in the right direction. I'll leave him a few days and see if I can get him to eat another one - once he's eating well I'll get him onto the larger prey items (ie the rats that are in the freezer) and see if that settles him down any.

In other news, Gardens Of The Sinner is finished, hurrah! It rocks in at 127,863 words according to the Rockfic board's word counter, and is the final instalment in the 'Tattoos And Alibis' trilogy, which began with Razorblade Sigh and continued in No World Order.

Both the first two books are currently available through Rockfic Press, as will the third one sometime in the summer.

I'd really really appreciate it if someone went and read the newest, though, because I'm feeling rather masochistic every time I go and look and the number of hits and reads it's had...

But I'd rather you bought the books!

Now, what shall I work on next... suggestions, anyone? ;)
mad_andy: (Yoz' boys)
As I know a lot of people on the Flist aren't Rockfic members, I thought I'd stick a few pieces on my journal for them to peruse, should they want to. If you're not a member and you like it, then I would heartily recommend getting a membership because there's lots and lots of awesome stories on the archive - even if slash isn't your thing, it's worth getting a year's membership!

Title: Trichomania

Fandom: Gamma Ray

Pairing: Dirk/Dan

Rating: Slash, NC17 (whatever that means. There's grown up activities involving willies and lube, anyway.)

Disclaimer: Although this tale features characters that share an awful lot of characteristics with the individuals who go to make up the featured rock band, it isn't them. I'm fully aware of that fact; they're completely their own people, and this is a fantasy based on their stage personas, interviews and other material in the public domain. No malice or impeachment is intended to the band, their families, friends, management companies or anyone else involved with them in any way, shape or form. No money is being made from this tale, it's written purely for the enjoyment of the author...and her readers.

It's fiction. Enjoy it as such.

Summary: Dirk teases, Dan suffers.

Had to be done. Writing meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] rockfic, [livejournal.com profile] hector_rashbaum and [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde:

Write down the first lines of everything you wrote, completed or not, in 2006.

Ready or not, here 'tis: )

So there you go!

Actually, there's probably four more fics (at least) that are no more than a bundle of notes in RD: a Police one, a Bruce/Michi, a Leppard one... all sorts of weird shit. let's see if I can get a few of 'em finished this year, eh?
mad_andy: (Yoz' boys)
Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] hector_rashbaum:

2006, in fic terms: )

And now I should really finish packing, get a shower, call my sister... *erk*
mad_andy: (Tuff Dirk with gun)
-- making a goddamn mess.

Yes, I have given up on the blue and am about to embark on slathering my head in henna. Black henna. From Lush. Did a strand test last night and it didn't look awful, so we'll see how it goes.

It's messy and smells and will take about five hours - it's like a cross between a big chemistry experiment and perfumery. I love it!

And while I wait for it to eat through my head, I shall be reading Internal Affairs - which all you good people should go and buy right now, because our Sidewinder do rock.

Update later...

Had a great time sunday visiting [livejournal.com profile] glammetalkitten, even if we were ignored by rockstars (*pfah*) and sneered at by their girlfriends. Who all look the same. I reckon they get the bloody things mail order.

(Oh, and I fell in lust with a bassist - who, [livejournal.com profile] arrys_girlie thinks, looks like my beloved Dirk! She actually has a point...)

AND I've just posted another chapter of Journeyman. Am now on the last one, the epilogue being nine tenths written already. The damn thing laid dormant for a year then, with a good poke from [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde, [livejournal.com profile] arrys_girlie and some fairly constant quiet under-the-table nagging from [livejournal.com profile] rockfic took off like a sodding rocket and won't shut up.

Can't wait to get it finished. And then never look at the flippin' thing again!

Best of all? Off to part-ay with [livejournal.com profile] rathenar tomorrow after work! Gonna be fun. Gonna stay on the boat. Gonna get very lost driving round Cambridge in the fog....

And now I'm knackered, so goodnight y'all.

Whee!

And, of course, on a completely unrelated note--

This picture gave me a bunny: )

*Heeheehee*

(Thanks as ever to the wonderfulness that is [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde!)

I should eat....
mad_andy: (Tuff Dirk with gun)
Or not - because [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde has updated Da Stash and oh my god are there some awesome pics on there....

Like these! )

In other news, I've finally finished one of the two het pieces that was begun for the anniversary challenge! [livejournal.com profile] evaine, it's all your fault - you gave me the bunny in the first place! I'm pretty pleased with the result though. And I'm also pleased (if rather startled) that I seem to be such a productive little carrot at the moment.

I must be avoiding something ;)

And now I am going back to dribbling at Fred's stash...!
