Friday Five

1. What job do you have, and why do you like/hate it?

I'm a trainee tattoo artist, and I love what I do. After the slings and arrows of outrageous employment since I was fifteen, I'm finally getting to express my artistic talents... and I'm working with people I like a lot, too. It's awesome.

2. As a kid, what did you want to be when you "grew up?"

Once I got over wanting to be a vet (an ambition that died once I realised how academic you had to be - urgh), I really had no idea. So I just kind of wandered about and tried lots of different things - from an engineering apprenticeship when I was eighteen, to shop and factory work, furniture restoration, catering... and of course vet nursing. Which was something I thought I would be doing for a lot longer than I did!

3. Is the job you have now anything like what you imagined as a kid?

Ah ha ha ha no. I didn't even come into contact with tattoos until I was almost twenty - my family just don't have them.

4. Do you have a five-year career plan?

Er, no. I do want to be able to look at what I'm doing in five years and realise that people are travelling long distances just to get their ink from me. And of course I do have plenty of plans for my personal life! ;)

5. In order to get the job of your dreams, is there anything you wouldn't do? Why?

Well, I'm doing the job of my dreams... but I suppose I won't compromise my principles. I know it must often seem I have the morals of an alley cat (*ahem*), but I do have things I won't do. Although a list wouldn't make sense - they're situation-specific, if you see what I mean.

That was fun! Thanks Fred. And now, to work!

Oh dear.

Having the night shift from Hell. Walked in to see a dog being prepped for surgery, a cat that had tried to stop a car with its face being given oxygen and the unmistakeable smell of dogs with haemorrhagic diarrhorrea.

Unable to run away screaming, I had to stay.

About half way through the cleaning process. Need tea and stuff, so stopped.

Heard somebody getting mugged in the carpark next door - called police, they weren't interested. Marvellous.

So, since it looks interesting, here is my interpretation of the Friday Five:

(Nicked from various on the Flist.)

1. Are you named after anyone? I am. A friend of my mum's when she was out in Singapore - thought my name was unusual so went for it. And my middle name is after the wife of one of dad's friends, also out in S'pore. They liked the spelling. *Snort* Thanks guys.

2. Do you have your children's names picked out already? Do get real. No breeding here, ta.

3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been? Caleb, apparently. Gotta love my parents.

4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why? Do you know, I have no idea. For years I preferred my middle name, but these days...? I like the shortened version of my current name. Andy works for me, it's nicely ambiguous and short enough to carry if yelled across a room!

5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly? Sometimes putting an extra 'i' in my first name, but rarely. Even my surname usually gets spelled right ('Slaymaker' is so unusual people almost always ask how it's spelled). My middle name, however...ha. 'Catharine' is an unusual enough spelling that very, very few people ever get it right....

(And now you know my middle name ;) )

Right, back to it!

Yawn.

Spending today doing nothing and resting. Yay. So I thought I'd do [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive:

My friday five: )

Hmm. That was interesting. Might have to try and do those more often!
