Ack, arg and other such ejaculations
Jan. 10th, 2006 11:29 amI'm reading one of the Anita Blake novels
rockfic gave me while we were in Asheville. And...
I dunno. I sort of like them.
But...
...they read like fanfic. Not bad fanfic, I'll grant you, but fanfic nevertheless. And damn, but is the main character a blatant Mary Sue or what? We'd probably call her on it if she ever tried to post anything at Rockfic. Ha.
The other thing that makes my blood boil is that she is published with this stuff and I, as well you know, am not.
This sucks salty donkey bollocks.
As does the terrible urge to write Anita Blake/Yoz crossover fanfiction. Jesus. I need help.
I mean, the books are just... clumsy. I've read fanfic set in that universe that's less clumsy than the original - and how fucked up is that? You open the book, start to read. Here-is-the-hero. Say hello, hero. Here is the main plot. Say hello, main plot. Here is the subplot. Say hello, subplot. Here is the writer, sorry, heroine being brave against Impossible Odds. Don't you wish you were just like her? Here is a plot twist. Say hello to the boys and girls, plot twist.
Do me a favour.
How does this stuff get published to gushing reviews?
How?
How?
And how can I get on that fucking bandwagon?!
