Dude.

I have two jobs.

Ok, absolutely freaking shattered, so a quick update. First day out of bed, drive down to Abingdon, forty minute clear run. Good-o. Have to return Tyson, who delayed my departure because he was having one last mad fling with Doris accompanied by vivarium-crunching noises.

He seems to be happy to be home, for all that I'm sorry to see him go. Lovely animal.

Anyway, Chris and I chat. He's so keen for me to work for him that he's perfectly happy for me to come in on my off weeks between night duty at the vets.

How. Freaking. Cool.

So. He's a fantastic bloke because he believes that it's possible to make money without compromising the welfare of your stock - he would happily lose a sale of someone isn't prepared to do what's best for the animal. And he's put his money where his mouth is.

Anyway, he showed me where all the stuff was kept, let me hold the caiman -



- who is about two feet long at the moment and is an utter darling, and I got on with replacing water bowls and cleaning vivaria.

I got hissed at by a grouchy gopher snake, got to play with the baby bearded dragons, cuddled a couple of blue tongued skinks who were absolutely not going to let me clean their viv without being picked up, avoided being bitten by the blood python, the carpet pythons and the male false water cobra.

And I fell in love with a frog. Negotiations have opened with the husband, but I'll win in the end.

So now I'm going to finish off preparing Doris' laying box, defrost her some dinner, eat something my very own self and collapse.

OMG what an utterly cool day. I get to muck about with beautiful reptiles and get paid for it.

Two to four weeks for egglaying, apparently. I've put the laying box in the viv, and now it's up to her. I shall worry now until she lays!!!!

Then sixty-some days later (if they're fertile) we should have baby snakes. *Crosses everything*

Cool! Do you get to work with tortoises? They're my favourites. I have a little tortoise shrine in my room, in memory of the one I had when I was little. Ever since then I thought about getting a tortoise again, but I'm always put off by the idea that I can't keep it in conditions approopriate to its species...
