Relief...

Much better today. Yesterday must have just been... tired, I guess. The man came round this morning to sort out our little problem with the phone line. (To whit: when we had the cable modem fitted we had to have an extra phone line; Slay used to use it for a spare dial-up line from the office. For the last few months we haven't used it, however; so you can imagine how pleased we were when, instead of there just being line rental on the latest bill there were fifty quid's worth of calls. Ringing the number - and expecting it to ring on the spare phone in the house - we were startled to discover that it was answered by a woman who lives down the road. Not half as surprised as she was to receive a call from an Unexploded Slay at half ten at night, though.)

And we now have our storage problem sorted. How? Well, if I have to give anyone directions to our house I can now say 'just look out for the one with the container in the back garden...'

Yup, one of those things that crosses the world on the back of those mighty container ships. Big oblong steel box. Farking enormous it is! It only cost £100 to have delivered, and the cost of rental is £1 a day. This is compared to over a hundred quid a month to use storage space in one of those warehouses! The flipside is having a mighty steel box in the back garden, but what the hell - we didn't use the rough patch down the side of the house anyway, and it's a damn sight more impressive than having a shed. Water, weather and fireproof too.

I rather like it, but suspect that the neighbours are likely to be slightly less impressed...

I shall await the first hysterical communication from the council with interest!
