So. The cold I had turned to Something Nasty.

Much huddling under covers shivering. Appetite banjoed. Chest hurting. Green muck coughed up.

Slay, [livejournal.com profile] arrys_girlie, [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde and sundry others encouraged me to go see the quack. I pissed and moaned but today I went. (Because yesterday I couldn't get an appointment at all.)

Had to call first thing this morning (no appointments), midday (still no appointments), then leave my number so the duty doctor could let me know if I could be squeezed into a slot (1610 thangyewverramuch, and be grateful for it.)

Verdict:

Upper respiratory infection. Bronchi inflamed but chest clear. (Bollocks, quite frankly - the only reason I'm not rattling is because it's fucking solid down there.) Chest pain purely physical strain from coughing. Tonsils like cruise missiles Just Because.

So, It's A Virus.

Which I would be less prone to if I quit smoking and lost weight.

That is it, I'm done. Never again. I am sick and tired of having bloody GPs sneering at me and passing fucking sentence on my lifestyle. I'm going to have to be bloody dying before I do that again.

Stuff it.

He's actually probably right, but only you can decide whether the lifespan/health cost of your lifestyle is a fair trade from your point of view. And I don't mean that judgementally, in fact I think I'm agreeing with you.

Regardless, hope you get better soon, medical intervention or not. Look after yourself mate.

I hear you. Boy, do I hear you. Thing is, I'd be more inclined to listen to them if I thought they listened to me. Fuck 'em. Hope you feel better.

The doctor may be right but take a bit of heart in the fact that they are a bunch of f'ing hypocrites. My dad's one. He's constantly on my case about quitting smoking (with good reason), but I like to point out his failings. Like drinking too much scotch, eating a bag of potato chips, being a Republican...all very bad health choices. Funny how they can't aim that much needed 'self discipline' at themselves. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm not overweight and I don't smoke, but I still manage to catch (or be caught by) a nasty virus or two at least once per season. You have my absolute sympathy, girl.
