Today is a Very Good Day Indeed.
I did my first tattoo. *Grins* Photos will be forthcoming, but not tonight - I have to get ready then shoot out for a curry with the girls. Posh restaurant in Bicester, so that should be a giggle.
Anyway, I now have a rose on my thigh, with a bit of tribal work around it. Chris showed me how to set up the machine, select a needle - two machines actually, one for lining, one for shading, that way you just switch machines rather than faffing around setting up again - prep the skin, carbon on the design... and I was off.
Yes, it did hurt. Like the proverbial motherfucker, actually.
I had the boss in stitches - he said all he could hear from my side of the studio was:
*Bzzzzzzzzz* BOLLOCKS *bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz* MOTHERFUCKER *bzzzzzzzzzzzz* FUCK fuck fuck *pause* CRAP *bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*....
XD
Mad - but bloody wonderful. I did the outlining (a bit wobbly in patches) (OW), switched to a shader (a no. 5 round, in case you're wondering), made a bollocks of filling in the black (much cursing), got the hang of it (managing to remove a small patch of skin in the process) - then switched to the dark green.
Got in a horrid mess. Green is a sonofabitch to use - it stains like a bastard, and makes it hard to see where you've shaded and where you haven't... so you have to wipe it hard... mopping up the blood at the same time... I don't think I've ever used the word 'motherFUCKER' quite so much in one three hour period. Ever.
Yes kids, I spent three hours digging myself with needles and ink. And i still have to do the light green and the red, and the white and yellow highlighting!
(I reckon another hour and a half, tops. Shading's quicker. And i really felt I was starting to get the hang of it by the time Chris got me to stop.)
I had a blast.
And it doesn't look too bad - I've seen worse that people have paid for, put it that way.
Chris has complete confidence in me - he's a great teacher, patient, encouraging, knows his stuff and is good at explaining it. And he keeps telling me that I'm good, learning fast, and a great artist like me (I am not making this shit up, I swear) will have no problems.
I have never, ever been praised so much before. It's bloody awesome. And I get on with Nurse (Cheri the piercer) who's teaching me that art, too. So far I've got on well with the clients and it's just--
Fuck me, but it's great.
AND my Gamma Ray DVD arrived, so I'm spending the few minutes before I put my glad rags on perving at Young Dirk and his Amazing Chest.
I tell you, life doesn't get any fucking better than this.
And now I'm going for a curry!

Make sure to watch the song "Heading For Tomorrow". It's the ultimate in Kai/Dirk slashy-ness :)
