Slay and I decided we know what we want to be the living centrepiece of our showtank. We've kept them before and they're striking, handsome fish, real characters. This pic doesn't do it justice, but it's one of these:

Grows to about five to six inches, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Delightfully bolshy, but if you keep it away from its own kind (territorial like whoah), anything close to it in colour, and keep it with stuff that can either get out of the way (lots of hiding places) or face it down, they're fine.
Will pace up and down the tank all but shouting for attention, fins spread, displaying at its own reflection or indeed anyone who strolls past the tank.
What the pic doesn't show is that a healthy adult specimen is a truly magnificent fish. Velvet black with a scarlet tail they also have white tips to their fins and a greenish sheen in the light, like the tail of a peacock. Glorious.
But.
Because most people are stupid they try to keep them with things like Bettas (they love to shred long, soft fins), or with other black fish, or try and keep several. (Unless you've got a tropical pond, forget it.)
So they've earned rather an unsavoury reputation for aggression. Result?
Can I find one for sale? Seems that nobody makes them any more.
*Teh Sulketh*
And in other news, I went on a revision course today. Did lots of practice for my practical exams. Was better than the others. Passed every one I attempted.
So howcome I can't pass the fucking things when I take them?
I don't know whether to be encouraged or scream.
And because of all the driving I'm shattered. *grumble* I think 'disheartened' is a very good description of how I feel right now, actually.

Probably because you were stressed out the first time. The second time for anything is usually smoother than the first. At least that's how I see it.
