Back of the arms? No fun at all. One hour. Wot a wuss. However, I do now have the outlines of three more pumpkins, one of which is part shaded - because at that point my skin stopped accepting ink. So we gave up. Give it a week or two, I'll be back....

Bogey area? Does that mean "the bit that really wasn't designed to be tattooed", right? *hugs* *carefully*

And also, I have a proposal for you. How would you feel about a cross-Europe road (or more probably, rail) trip with a Maiden gig at the end of it? ^_^

Yeah, bogey as in 'the bit that the nervous system has hysterics when a needle is waved near it'. *Sigh* The annoying thing is that you can grit your way through the pain, but the body does its own thing - and if it's too painful (in my experience) it just stops co-operating and won't hold the ink. I have no idea how that works but if someone were to give me a big enough grant I'd love to study it...

And I'm intrigued - tell me more! (Never been across europe by rail.)

Eek! I'd never heard of that "refusal to hold ink" thing. Wow. O_O

And, well, the original idea went kind of like this:

Me: Maiden are touring in December! Come see them with me!
BF: Yes! Wanna! Where?
Me: I dunno, but I'm bored of Earl's Court, so not London... one of the other ones. [me thinking Birmingham or something, of course]
BF: Spain! Or somewhere else in Europe!
Me: WTF? *pauses* *thinks* ...fuck, why not? ^_^

So we're going to decide where we want to wind up, get tickets, and go out by Eurostar and cross-country rail. Length and itinerary of trip TBC, it's just an idea right now, but as the Post Office say, I Thought Of You. Since I've been wanting to meet you IRL for ages, and we didn't actually know to say hello to each other on Flight 666 and all. ;)

Sounds like a hoot - be one heck of a writeup! Let me know the dates and all that good stuff. *Hugs*

What other parts of you are scheduled for ink, and what're you going to have put on ya?

It would be easier to say which bits I don't want inked - which would be boobs, soles of feet, palms of hands (seen it done, no fucking way) and face! Everything else is fair game. And it'll be a mix of Eddies, pumpkins (they're great for filling gaps and still have the music connection), various band logos (Gamma Ray and the Leppard 'eye' will make it in there somewhere), and some darkside stuff. Because I like it.

This is going to be a rather long project...and an expensive one! (That reminds me - must find a way of getting my skin preserved post mortem...be a shame to burn all that art....)

Maybe the talismanic presence of all those Eddies will ward off death/decay indefinitely, if you're lucky. ;)

I have to say I'd never thought about that before, but you're right. Having your tattoos tanned and kept when you die would be awesome, if you could find someoe willing to do it. Good luck!

I'm thinking of contacting that Gunther von Hagen guy, the one that does the plastinates - although I'm fairly sure that his process takes the colour out. I may just drop him a line and find out. (If I say he can have the rest of the corpse to play with then he may let me bequeath the skin where I wish. Although my parents might not be the cleverest idea ever.)

Andy, you are too fucking cool for words. And fucking ballsy too having so much ink done---I want a little and going to the level you're going to is....wow. Fucking wow!

Not to be totally stoopid, but what's "darkside stuff"?

let's see if this link shows up...

Now that, if you can see it, is a classic example of darkside. It's usually done freehand - yup, you let the artist loose on you to draw and colour you in without a safety net!!!! The term really describes artwork that isn't traditional, isn't Japanese, but is along the lines of Giger's biomechanical work.

Back of the arms? Dude, I coulda told you that! My dragon's tail was probably the most painful thing I have ever endured. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

*Snort* Yup, and it was the second time too. I'll never learn. *Grin* It's worth it, though. (And there's no way I want to end up with almost-full-sleeves-except-for-the-stingy-bit!!!!!)

Just don't go all the way up to your armpit. I'm told that's the most painful place to get inked.

If/when i run out of skin the armpit will get done - and not before. Thankfully there's many, many acres left...

Ouch, ouch, ouch.

How bad does the back of the shoulder feel? Like where you have the Eddie playing the bass at...actually the shoulder blade more like it.

It's not too bad, on the whole - but any tattoo hurts like the proverbial mofo! The back and shoulders are more painful than the upper arms, but it really depends on the individual. If you're having a bad day it'll hurt worse, bizarrely.

Plus of course, the average 'girly' tattoo takes about 20 minutes - the stuff I've had done takes hours at a time...!

But yeah, it depends. A quick way to check is to pinch the area; then compare it to pinching the area on the outside of the upper arm. That gives you a rough indicator.

*nods* Allright, cause that's where I'm planning on having the tattoo I want put. I didn't wanna choose some area that was gonna like kill me as soon as the needle touched it. *snorts*

Mom got hers there, where I'm wanting mine, and she's said roughly the same thing.

I like your stuff better than the average "girly" tatt. *grins*
