One day, somebody is going to suggest an idea that I think sounds interesting I'm going to be all mature and grownup and sit back and say sure, that sounds good. Let me know how it turns out.
Instead of flinging myself at it and finding myself out of my bloody depth.
What am I on about?
Ha.
This chap on the Gamma Ray forum (yes, I have been hanging out on there rather a lot lately)suggested an idea that had apparently worked well on other forums he'd hung out on. To whit, several people get together to record a cover of a song - in this case, Gamma Ray's Heaven Can Wait. You get a couple of guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, a vocalist or two, everybody records their bits at home and some poor boob mixes it all together.
Sounds like a spiffing wheeze, I thought.
Yeah, I said, if you need a female vocalist I'll help!
To my surprise, instead of the reply being 'poo, we don't need no girls' the response was 'yeah, great!'
Er...ok.
Another triumph of enthusiasm over good sense.
I can sing, incidentally - it's just been a very long time since I did it with any regularity. And at any volume. And I have never recorded a note in my entire life. (I have sung on stage with a band, once, as a Special Guest. Long story. Must dig out the pictures one day. Apparently I didn't screw it up, much to the astonishment of the band who hadn't known until that moment that I could do it! Anyway.)
So, now hoping that the project will die a death I wait. And oh boy am I proved wrong.
I have a list of which bits I should sing lead and which bits backing and OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!
I shall gird my loins and give it my best shot. And panic a bit, because one of the guitarists has just said he can have his bit done in two to three days (OMGWTF) so I need to get a microphone, practise a lot, and figure out how to record the track. I can do it. No worries. *Sweats*
Slay was asleep when I crashed into the bedroom screaming I NEED A FUCKING MICROPHONE WHERE'S THAT FUCKING CD!!!!!
He woke up, and blinked at me whilst I burrowed into the pile of discs by my PC, hunting for the one that has heaven Can Wait on it because I only know the first half of the song (argh) and need to learn it all (Argh) and tomorrow I start a run on four thirteen hour night shifts (ARGH).
Still, at least I can practise in the empty surgery at full belt and won't be disturbing anybody.
navigatorsghost, any tips before I panic myself into a total breakdown over this?
Oh, and the guy who's started this? Has asked the forum mods if they can get a copy of the finished product to the band. I am not going to panic. (Still, rewatching the Lust For Live DVD I at least know I can do better than bloody Ralf. *Snort* Hate that guy's voice live.)
I am excited - it's just struck me that since I started hanging out on the internet I've met more creative people, got myself into more scrapes and had more sheer fun than I have for a very long time. And that's no bad thing.
Now I just need to address this habit of throwing myself at things I should probably be watching from the sidelines...!
*Panics quietly so no one will see*
