Snakes!

So I thought I'd do an update on my ophidian brood - Slay is coming home today (he's been in Brazil for a week), so he'll probably be all needy and wanting to be paid attention to when he gets here. So god alone knows when I'll get back online.

Plus, I fully expect a bollocking of Epic Proportions for (a) not doing any significant de-cluttering while he was gone and (b) bringing more snakes home.

The corn snake group has had a shakeup. Tyson has gone to be a much spoilt and beloved pet - as he deserves - and the new male - Thumper - has settled in nicely. So nicely, in fact, that yesterday morning I found him happily mating with the female snow I brought home last week.

She was an unwanted who came in the shop, laid us a lovely big clutch of eggs. We fed her up, and I brought her home; she's called Spectre, and she and Thumper are working on her next clutch!

Also, Thumper was a spazzy little sod when I picked him up. He's been through three or four homes due to being aggressive. Last night I hoiked him out of the viv, and you know what? He's still a little nervous, but he was absolutely fine. No twitching, no attempts to strike; once he figured I wasn't going to drop him he just sat there in my hands and relaxed.

So it looks like all he needed was a willing harem and a good shag!!!

Typical bloke.

He and Lucy the anery are now all loved up, so it looks like I might even have some interesting clutches this year! My corn breeding plans progress apace, which is awesome.

The little snow hatchling that I called Long turned out, on being probed, to be female, so I decided to rename her. She's now called Wisp, and she's absolutely gorgeous. I think she may turn out to be a bubblegum snow, which is a pink-and-white patterned snake. Time will tell!

The albino bulls are settling in beautifully; I have high hopes for these two, and I sure hope that Slay likes them as much as I do! They are now called Bandit (the boy) and Boxer (the girl). Big, husky, healthy babies.

AND I saw Zico and Bandita (the borrowed female bull) mating last night! So they've obviously decided after being cuddled up in his hide box for a week that it was time to get a bit more intimate. I'm well chuffed, couldn't be happier; also, talking to Bandita's owner she was saying that I could hang onto her as long as I liked, so she doesn't seem to be too keen to have her back. With any luck, I can persuade Slay to let me make an offer to buy her, so I'd then have my pair of normal phase bulls. How cool would that be?!

Mei-mei took two defrost pinks last night - *phew*. So she's fine, settled in beautifully, and fingers crossed for a good growth surge so we can start to breed for the 2010 season.

And now Slay is home and thus my train of thought has been totally derailed. *Sigh*

Also, I feel I should make a comment on the latest Rockfic...kefuffle.

I consider those on both sides of the fence to be good, true friends. And it makes me sad to see people I love not being happy with each other.

And that's all.
