Once I helped a friend with renovating her apartment which was in a not yet lived-in house and we worked until two or three in the morning. When I finally left I stood outside on the street and for a moment thought I'd gone deaf: there was not a single sound. No birds, no cars, not even the air was moving. It was total silence, the world was asleep. That was amazing.
